Spring (or is it Summer?) Greetings~
This past Sunday I preached about the Good Shepherd, one of many God images found in both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. I promised I would share the translation of Psalm 23 found in Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness by Nan C. Merrill (see below) and provide a link to my favorite version of this psalm, sung by Bobby McFerrin. Listen closely: you’re in for a treat!
This Saturday, 5/5, please join us for a dedication of our new Lowell Street Garden. Two new benches have been donated, and Mary Jane Glass and David Grimsted (Building & Grounds Committee) have been working hard to plant seedlings, spread wood chips and install stone pavers. This small area has the potential to be a welcoming space for both our congregation and the neighborhood, and I hope you’ll come see it and enjoy the blessings and poetry that dedicate it. We’ll gather at 4:30 pm.
This Sunday, 5/6, our annual Children’s Sunday Service will feature a short play written by Mirabelle Shoemaker (who gave birth to her second daughter, Mabel Jean Shoemaker, last Saturday) in honor of our 100th Anniversary. Hint: it’s NOT A Christmas Carol. But it does feature ghosts. And, it will be fun for all ages!
Psalm 23 (Psalms for Praying by Nan C. Merrill)
O my Beloved, You are my shepherd,
I shall not want;
You bring me to green pastures
and lead me beside still waters
renewing my spirit;
You restore my soul.
You lead me in the path of
to follow Love’s way.
Even though I walk through the
valley of the shadow and
I am not afraid;
For You are ever with me;
your rod and your staff
they guide me,
they give me strength
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of all my fears;
you bless me with oil,
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the heart
of the Beloved forever.
Many blessings to you and yours,
