Cleveland Park Congregational United Church of Christ (CPC) seeks a preaching fellow for July 2021 (July 4-August 1). The fellow will preach and lead worship for five Sunday services and lead two post-service discussion sessions (approximately one hour long) on a theme chosen by the fellow.
Setting: CPC is a small and thriving congregation in a residential neighborhood of Northwest Washington, DC. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds but share a vibrant progressive Christianity. We are “open and affirming” and welcome all people. Our worship services combine traditional and informal elements with experienced musical leadership. Our pastor, who has served the congregation for ten years, takes a month of leave in July.
Support: The fellow will be supported by the Church Administrator, Music Director, and lay-led Worship Committee for each Sunday service. The Adult Lifespan Committee will support the after-service programs led by the fellow. The fellow would not have any pastoral responsibilities.
Requirements: The fellow should be a seminary student or graduate with some experience in preaching and planning and leading worship. They should be comfortable with theological diversity and the dynamics of progressive Christianity. They should know how to collaborate in worship planning and leadership. Services will be conducted via video conferencing (Zoom), so geography is not a limiting factor.
Compensation: The preaching fellow will receive an honorarium of $1500 for five Sundays of leadership (in two payments). CPC will not provide benefits or housing for the fellow.
Application: Applications should include a cover letter (including a description of the proposed sermon series and related adult group sessions), resume, sample sermon (preferably an audio or video recording), and the names/contact information for three references. Applications and questions should be sent to email@example.com.
The application deadline is March 15, 2021.
