On Sunday we had the pleasure of greeting our Sabbatical Pastor, Reverend Aubra Love. She is an authorized minister whose standing is held in the Potomac Association of The Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ. A graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Rev. Love comes to the Central Atlantic Conference from the Southeast Conference, in her hometown of Atlanta GA.
She recently completed a term as Acting Associate Conference Minister of the Potomac and Chesapeake Associations. Rev. Love was ordained in the Southern Conference, 25 years ago, as the first cross-racial pastoral appointment to a white UCC congregation.
A social entrepreneur and retired commercial banker, Rev. Love is the founder of The Black Church and Domestic Violence Institute, a national educational ministry that brought the voices of the historic Black Church to the public policy arena in partnership with the US Department of Justice, Violence Against Women Office, mainline denominations, and state domestic violence coalitions. She provides culturally competent training to institutions, faith-based organizations, and social movement collectives with a lens toward the politics of gender, spirituality, and sexuality.
She is a pastor and preacher, author and gardener, and grandmother. She is a lifelong movement worker and daughter of Civil Rights Movement foot soldiers dedicated to literacy action and Black voter registration in the southeastern states.
On Sunday Rev. Love introduced herself to us with a spirited and inspiring sermon on being free. We look forward to her preaching and teaching over the next few months. She we also join in three coffee hour conversations, the first being on June 12.
Of course, a coffee hour conversation is only a conversation if there are no coffee and refreshments. There was a real void last Sunday without the coffee hour which we have often fondly referred to as “the best in Christendom.” So please sign up for coffee hour host or other support activities.
Until next time,
REMEMBER! Sign up to greet, host coffee hour, provide flowers, or provide worship support. These things will not happen without you. The link to SignUp Genius is tinyurl.com/CPCSundays.
