Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. – William Arthur Ward
It is hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is just two weeks away, which means that we are about to enter the holiday season. I love this time of year and one reason I do is because it is a period that celebrates gratitude, goodwill, and generosity. I’ve decided to get a head start on the season by devoting today’s Moderator’s Memo to gratitude. Here goes.
I am grateful for this church and church community; family and friends; writers, artists, and musicians; teachers (whether they call themselves that or not); caretakers; and everyone working on behalf of social justice. This list is clearly not exhaustive, but it does reflect what is on my mind today.
I would like to give special thanks and recognition to all the people involved in this year’s 100th anniversary celebration. The year is drawing to a close and we are holding our last special service on Sunday. This Service of Homecoming will give us a chance to acknowledge all of the people who have supported and kept this church going for the past 100 years. It also will provide an opportunity to thank all those who are carrying on the CPC legacy today and paving the way for future generations. I hope you will be able to join us for this celebratory service!
Several months ago, Dawn Straitz reminded us that October is Pastor Appreciation month. She commissioned her husband, Wesley Meacombs, to paint a picture of our church for Pastor Ellen and invited congregation members to sign it. On October 28, she and Wesley presented the painting to Pastor Ellen in appreciation for all that she does for us and our church. Thanks, Pastor Ellen, and thanks also to Dawn and Wesley for undertaking this project! (You can see more of Wesley’s paintings at our Art Show and Charity Auction on Saturday. See below for more details.)
Finally, many thanks to everyone who has submitted a pledge card for 2019. We are grateful for your support of our church and its mission. This is a friendly reminder that we would like to receive all pledge cards on or before November 18, the last day of the stewardship campaign. You can use the pledge card you received in the mail or pledge with this online pledge card.
