. . . I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round—apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that—as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time. . . . —Charles Dickens
And so it was at our church last Sunday. Peace was in short supply but goodwill was in abundance as children, parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, and church members all gathered for the annual CPC Christmas Pageant.
Pastor Ellen gave an inspiring talk to the participants before the pageant got underway, and Kaylyn, Katie, and Julia skillfully managed things once it started. The script, which tells the familiar story in a creative and engaging way, elicited excellent performances from everyone, including Lija making her acting debut as an animated baby Jesus. The pageant also featured many traditional CPC elements such as the wonderful costumes and the impressive star that guides the kings to the manger.
It was nice to see some newcomers participating alongside veterans of past pageants and to witness the enthusiasm of all who took part. Thanks to everyone who helped, participated, and offered encouragement along the way.
The Coffee Hour after the service was very festive and featured dozens of cookies baked by members of the congregation. Thanks to all the bakers and Fellowship Committee members who helped make this such a special (and delicious) occasion. Also, thanks to our holiday decorators who had the place looking very Christmassy.
We have more Christmas celebrations to come! Please join us for our Poetry, Lessons & Carols service this coming Sunday and for our Fireside Christmas Eve service on Monday night. (See details below.)
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
