What is your favorite thing about June? Is it the end of school and the start of summer vacation? Do you have a birthday or an anniversary in June? Is it the more consistently great weather and the glorious shades of green and blue nature lets us enjoy? Is it none of the above?
At Cleveland Park Church, we’ve had the good fortune to celebrate many of June’s offerings. As Ellen mentioned in her Pastor’s Page last week, we have just celebrated the one year anniversary of her time with us. Isn’t amazing how much we’ve accomplished together in those 12 months?! I’m quite impressed! It makes me feel sometimes like it must have been more than just one year because I can’t quite believe the enormity of it all. We are growing larger as a congregation, more varied in our programming, and deeper in our connections and faith. And what’s more, just like with most anniversaries we are already looking ahead to more. Our Mid-Year Meeting is coming up on July 29 where we will update everyone on our budget, finances, programming activities, and strategic plan process. Please plan to attend.
Just this past Sunday we had our “end of school” with Children’s Sunday and our annual church picnic. If you missed the children’s pageant this year, you certainly missed out on time traveling Biblical characters and Pastor Ellen as a Starbucks barista. Who knew John the Baptist was a Caps fan? But again, just because it’s summer break doesn’t mean our children and youth program is shutting down for the summer. This Saturday, June 16, from 9 to noon we are having a children and youth planning retreat to start planning for next year. If you want to help be a part of our exciting children and youth programs, please join us! And, then the first week of July, our youth and Pastor Ellen are traveling on a UCC mission trip supporting Habitat for Humanity.
And as for the good weather? While it was on the hot side this past Sunday, we’ve been out at the summer festivals – Glover Park Day and the Capitol Pride Festival. It’s only still early June and we’ve already had so many reasons to celebrate the season!
So now for vacation: the Moderator’s Memo and Pastor’s Page will be taking a brief vacation the weeks of June 25 and July 2.
See you in church!
