As many of us return to work and school after a summer here and away, we’ll come together on Sunday for a Welcome Back Service and Harvest Lunch hosted by our Deacons. I hope you’ll join us for this fun annual event!
Given the season, I know you don’t need any more emails right now. Thus, I’ll make this one short and sweet. Please take a look at our upcoming events below and a quick peek at our Facebook page. You might even “like” it!
We pray this week for the safety of all those returning to school and for comfort, strength, and assistance for everyone impacted by Hurricane Dorian. For information about how to help, please see UCC Dorian Response. Here’s a prayer from Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson of Wider Church Ministries & Operations: Holy God, you are an ever-present help in times of trouble. We put our hope in you on behalf of those whose lives have been affected by tragedy in the Bahamas. We pray their peace and comfort, asking for help for those who have suffered loss. We pray calm for those who now wait anxiously. Grant your peace, O God. Amen.
And, here’s a poem for anyone in need of solace from our world’s woes:
When I say that nothing you do is
This is what I mean:
You, standing at the counter,
Making pancakes for the person
You, turning to kiss his cheek
As you go together
Into the cool white clinic
To get the test results you
Already know will not be good,
You, standing at the door for
Ten seconds longer,
To hold it for the next person,
Who has not gotten the job, again,
This is not incidental.
This is the way that you
Make the world.
– Rev. Laura Martin
