Dear Church Community,
Many of you received a bogus email yesterday, supposedly from me. Such emails were sent from two gmail addresses I’ve never used: “revellen.cpcchurch” or “pastorellen.cpcchurch.” If you receive an email from one of these addresses or from any address other than email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org, it did not come from me or the church. Please delete it and report it as a “phishing” attempt to Gmail. This is an email scam that’s happened to many pastors; our church was not singled out. Thus, it’s mostly an annoyance, not a threat. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at my real email address: email@example.com. Thanks!
- YouTube: We now have a YouTube channel where all our worship services are uploaded; thus, you can watch or re-watch them at your leisure! Please click on Cleveland Park Congregational UCC YouTube RIGHT NOW and have everyone in your household subscribe. With 100 subscribers, we can access better capabilities.
- Facebook: As you may know, we have a Facebook page that’s regularly updated. If you use Facebook, please click on Cleveland Park Congregational UCC Facebook and “like” us so we appear in your feed.
- Online Donations: If you make your pledge payments and church donations by check or cash, this might be a good time to switch to online contributions. You can do so at Cleveland Park Congregational UCC Donations, where you’ll find instructions for donating via credit card, PayPal, or setting up a direct debit from your bank account. Thank You!
Sunday’s Service: This week’s worship will focus on the space in which we currently find ourselves: right now. We don’t know how much longer this situation will last, so it’s probably best for our mental and emotional health that we accept it and cease waiting for things to return to “normal.” I’m not claiming this is easy, but I truly believe it will make us happier (or at least, less stressed) in our daily lives. See below for Zoom Worship information (you’ll receive an email reminder Saturday evening).
Reaching In: If you need help, please know you aren’t alone. Don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also request assistance from the Cleveland & Woodley Park Village at email@example.com/(202) 615-5853 or DC Mutual Aid Network at (202) firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reaching Out: Julie Maner invites us all to get involved with this effort to help local families financially impacted by the COVID crisis: Families4FamiliesDMV. Each week, participants assemble Bags of Basics (wearing mask and gloves) and bring them to the collection site in Chevy Chase. Julie is willing to pick up any bags we assemble and drive them all at once. For more information, please see the website and/or email Julie.email@example.com.
In addition, these organizations need both financial donations and volunteers. To volunteer for the Cleveland & Woodley Park Village: Village Volunteer. To volunteer with or donate to the DC Mutual Aid Network: Mutual Aid Volunteer and Mutual Aid Donation. Click here for a longer list of organizations in our area working to make sure vulnerable populations are cared for during this crisis.
Finally, I’ll share once again that, at the beginning of the DC area shutdown, the German news outlet, ZDF, created a short video about our church. It’s in German, but you’ll “understand.” Isoliert durch Corona translates to Isolation during Corona. We’re one global family!
Easter Blessings to you and yours,
