Dear Church Community,
Thank you so much for all your love and support this week. The tree has been removed, one car towed, the other merely dented, and our power and internet returned. My son likely does not have Covid, though other pressing health concerns remain. Your continued prayers are welcome.
Mental Health Sunday. This year, I’m delighted that six DC area congregations will gather for a joint worship service on Sunday, May 17, at 10:30 am. Our UCC denomination promotes mental health awareness and support the third Sunday each May, and we’ve invited former member, David Finnegan-Hosey, to preach in the context of his new book, Grace is a Preexisting Condition: Faith, Systems, and Mental Healthcare.
Medical Debt Relief: Because medical debt is such a huge problem in this country (more so for people with mental health issues, due to lack of coverage and other circumstances), we’re pairing this Sunday’s service with a renewed request for contributions to our DC area Medical Debt Relief Campaign.
Through the organization, RIP Medical Debt, every dollar raised will relieve one hundred dollars of medical debt for lower income people in our region. In the face of the current public health crisis, medical debt is growing ever larger, so I pray you’ll give generously. Our goal is $25,000, which would relieve $2.5 million of debt and enable individuals and families to move forward with one less financial burden.
TO GIVE: Westmoreland Congregational UCC is collecting all funds raised during this campaign. You may give online here (go to the “Medical Debt Buyout Project” line item). You may also mail checks to “Medical Debt Project,” Westmoreland UCC, 1 Westmoreland Circle, Bethesda, MD 20816.

You can do so at Cleveland Park Congregational UCC Donations, where you’ll find instructions for donating via credit card, PayPal, or direct debit from your bank account. Thank You!
Finally, the Interfaith Council of Metropolitan Washington just published an abridged version of my Easter sermon on its website. In addition, I’m sure you know DC, Northern VA, and Montgomery and PG Counties all remain under Stay at Home Orders. This is challenging for everyone, and we’re continuing to adjust our church programs accordingly. If you need help, please reach out by emailing email@example.com. And, stay tuned for a short survey, asking for your input on how our church can best serve you.
Blessings of peace and health to you and yours,
