Dear Church Community,
Are you ready for a little fun?! Then gather with me this Sunday, 10/3, at 10:30 am in our church’s side yard for an outdoor Blessing of the Animals. All creatures, great and small, are welcome. We ask humans to wear a mask and other creatures to be on leash or in a carrier. With apologies, there will be no online service this Sunday.
On Tuesday, 10/5, you’re invited to join the Capital Campaign Mission Group from 7-9 pm for Housing Justice in Ward 3, an online presentation and panel discussion on the history of housing segregation in our community. We’ll start with a viewing of Segregated by Design, followed by a presentation on the history of segregation and fair housing in Ward 3 and a panel discussion about how to increase local affordable housing opportunities. Invite your friends and neighbors! Free registration here.
I’m excited to report that this year’s Confirmation/Coming of Age Class is going strong after a morning at Adventure Park, an afternoon at the Interfaith Unity Walk, and an evening class in our side yard. This Saturday we’ll serve at St. Paul’s Food Pantry. Our church has a wonderful group of young teens, and I hope many of you will consider becoming a Confirmation Mentor when I put out a request for volunteers this winter.
While our Confirmation/Coming of Age Class is quite active, our Sunday School Program for younger children is experiencing a lull due to the departure of our lead teacher, Kimberly. We’re seeking to hire a new Lead Sunday School Teacher/ Coordinator, so if you know anyone who might like to apply, please encourage them. In addition, we’re in great need of a revitalized Children & Youth Committee. I’m currently leading this program (in addition to teaching the Confirmation/COA Class), and it’s not sustainable for me. If you feel called to serve our church’s youngest members, please let me know. Thank you!
Finally, I want to remind you that our Congregation Care Committee and Team are active and available to those in need of a listening ear, groceries, a ride to the doctor, etc. If you need help, please don’t hesitate to email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’d like to serve our congregation by providing support to others, please email us about joining the Congregation Care Committee or Team.
As we enter more fully into autumn, may the blessings of this season rest gently upon you, like a leaf, falling gracefully, without regret. (from a Plum Village meditation chant)
Peace Be with You,
