We are people of extravagant welcome – and that welcome extends to all people. If you are LGBTQ+ and looking for a church home and family, our doors are wide open.
In 2007, we amended our constitution to declare ourselves an Open and Affirming Congregation. As part of this declaration, we expressed our intent to be a community “supportive of everyone no matter where you are on life’s journey” that welcomes “lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans-gender, trans-sexual persons…without reservation.”

Our church was an early supporter of legalizing same-sex marriage in the District of Columbia. During a worship service in 2010, we celebrated one of the city’s first legally sanctioned same-sex marriage ceremonies for two of our members. Since then, we have proudly celebrated numerous other same-sex weddings.
Each year we live out our Open and Affirming commitment by participating in DC’s Pride Festival and Parade, contributing to organizations that support LGBTQ+ youth and adults, and holding an affirmation service to highlight LGBTQ+ concerns and our commitment to vigilantly counter discrimination.
