At Cleveland Park Congregational UCC, we believe it is important to reach out to our local, regional, and international communities.
We do this through participating in both mission and social action activities, maintaining partnerships with important community groups, and contributing financially to nonprofit organizations and UCC special offerings.
Our primary areas of focus are:
- Racial Justice
- Immigrants and Refugees
- Homelessness and Poverty (including at-risk youth)
- LGBTQ+ Issues
- Environment and Creation Care
We are also concerned about substance abuse and elder care and offer free space to multiple twelve step groups and our neighborhood’s senior village.
Examples of activities we have done in recent years include: the Walk to End HIV; Help the Homeless Walk-a-thon; Community Clean Ups; volunteering with the local food pantry; delivering groceries to low-income seniors; volunteering at after school program for low-income youth; collecting food and clothing for homeless shelters; and participating in racial justice rallies and campaigns. Our high school youth go on a mission/work trip each year. And we have a growing relationship with the DC-based asylum seeker assistance organization, AsylumWorks.
Our congregation tithes (donates 10% of all income) to nonprofit organizations working in our primary areas of focus. These donations and all related activities are governed by the Mission & Social Action Committee, which meets bi-monthly. If you are interested in joining the committee or participating in a mission project, please contact our Mission Chair at info@cpcchurch.org.
