‘This is a new year. A new beginning. And things will change.‘ – Taylor Swift
As a fan of mystery novels, I have always enjoyed a good plot twist. Little did I know one was coming my way when I was asked late last year if I would serve as Moderator again in 2024. Although my first turn as Moderator was only six years ago, a lot has changed over those six years.
Putting aside all that has happened in our country and the world at large, here at CPC we have welcomed new members, said tearful goodbyes to others, “gone hybrid,” made much needed improvements to our building, and completed a capital campaign. And these are just the first things that popped into my head when I sat down to write this.
The coming year likely will bring other changes. Whatever happens, I know that our church family will be there to help celebrate the good things and offer support and comfort where and when needed. As Pastor Ellen said in one of her recent sermons:
I’m telling you there’s no one way to approach 2024. I’m telling you I will be here for you, and we will be here for each other. I’m telling you we’ll be a beacon and we’ll look for beacons. I’m telling you we’ll challenge and comfort one another, and we’ll reach out to challenge and comfort others. I’m telling you we are each responsible for seeking and finding our Light. And for supporting, encouraging, even prodding others to do the same.
I am looking forward to seeing how we all let our Light shine forth in the coming year and hope you are as well.
With much appreciation,
