The Mission and Social Action Committee invites us to participate in taking action on important issues in our city, nation and world. Questions? Email Emily Parker, moc.liamg@cerekrap
Blood Donations Needed—There’s currently a national blood shortage, making it even more difficult for patients to get the life-saving care they need. If you’re willing & able, please consider donating blood! All blood types are helpful, but especially type O. You can find the nearest Red Cross donation center here.
Back-to-School Supply Drive—New Hope Baptist Church, a CPC mission partner, invites us to participate in their Back-to-School Supply Drive to ensure local students and teachers have the resources they need for a fruitful school year. To participate, please bring school and classrooms supplies to church Sunday August 9 or August 16. There will be a bin in the parlor for the supplies. See here for a list of needed school supplies. Suggested classroom supplies include: Boxes of facial tissues; Disinfectant wipes; Hand sanitizer; Bleach; Extra #2 pencil; Pink block erasers; Markers; Highlighters; Clear storage bins; Zippered pencil pouches; Boxes of crayons; Boxes of markers or colored pencils; Dry-erase markers; Safety scissors.
The Mission and Social Action Committee encourages congregants to avoid purchasing from Amazon and Target, companies that profit off of discrimination and ICE detentions. Free DC and Boycott Target DC have called for an Amazon and Target boycott for back to school supplies and have identified alternatives listed in the graphic below. If you would like to order school supplies at a 15% discount from Merry Pin in Ward 4, the MSAC Chair will be happy to pick the supplies up from the store.
For questions or a Merry Pin pick-up, contact Emily P at moc.liamg@cerekrap
